Rutgers University, officially known as Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is located primarily in New Jersey. It has three main campuses across the state:
- The largest and original campus is in New Brunswick and adjacent Piscataway, New Jersey.
- Two other campuses are in Newark and Camden, New Jersey.
The New Brunswick campus is the historic core of the university, with multiple sub-campuses such as College Avenue, Busch, Livingston, Cook, and Douglass spreading across New Brunswick and Piscataway. Rutgers is centrally administered from New Brunswick but has significant autonomy at the Newark and Camden campuses. Rutgers is conveniently located near major highways and train stations and is close to major cities such as New York City (33 miles) and Philadelphia (65 miles).
