The serial killer known for making furniture and other items from human body parts was Ed Gein. He was an American murderer and body snatcher active in the 1950s. Gein exhumed corpses from graves and used their skins and bones to fashion household objects such as chairs upholstered in human skin, face masks, and other grotesque items. His crimes drew worldwide notoriety when authorities discovered these items in his farmhouse, along with the bodies of his victims. He confessed to killing two women and robbing graves for the remains of others, which he used to create these macabre artifacts. Gein was deemed insane and spent the rest of his life in psychiatric institutions until his death in 1984.
