The standard soccer ball sizes by age are as follows:
- Size 1: For children age 3 and under. Circumference 18-20 inches, weight around 195-205 grams.
- Size 2: For children ages 3 to 5 years. Circumference 20-22 inches, weight 250-280 grams.
- Size 3: For children ages 5 to 8 years. Circumference 23-24 inches, weight 300-320 grams.
- Size 4: For children ages 8 to 12 years. Circumference 25-26 inches, weight 350-390 grams.
- Size 5: For players age 12 and older, including adults and professionals. Circumference 27-28 inches, weight 410-450 grams.
Size 3 is often the first size used in actual youth matches, while size 4 is a transitional size for youth players developing skills before moving to the full size 5 ball used in official matches from age 12 onward. Smaller sizes are easier for younger children to control and help safely develop their skills.
