The PHS (Public Health Service) regulations require investigators to disclose significant financial conflicts of interest. Specifically, the party required to disclose significant financial conflicts of interest includes:
- The Principal Investigator (PI)
- All other investigators contributing effort to the PHS-funded research
- Any other person the PI or contributing personnel designates as responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of the research
These investigators must disclose all significant financial interests related to their institutional responsibilities, including those of their spouse and dependent children, at the time of application for PHS funding, annually during the course of the award, and within 30 days of acquiring any new significant financial interest. The purpose is to identify and manage any financial conflicts that could affect the design, conduct, or reporting of the research.
