The UK government's counter-terrorism strategy, known as CONTEST, is built around four key themes or "4 Ps":
- Pursue: to stop terrorist attacks from happening
- Prevent: to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism
- Protect: to strengthen protection against a terrorist attack
- Prepare: to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack
These four strands form the core framework of the UK's approach to counter- terrorism, aiming to reduce the risk from terrorism so that people can live freely and with confidence
