The high school catfish in the case known as "Unknown Number: The High School Catfish" was Kendra Licari, the mother of Lauryn Licari. Kendra sent thousands of aggressive, abusive, and threatening text messages over a period of nearly two years to her own daughter Lauryn and Lauryn's then-boyfriend Owen McKenny. She pretended to be another student and used an anonymous number to harass and try to break up the couple, even sending texts urging Lauryn to kill herself. The harassment began in fall 2021 in Beal City, Michigan, and lasted for about 20 months. Kendra was caught after police investigations traced the messages to her, and she was sentenced to prison in 2023. The story was documented in a Netflix documentary directed by Skye Borgman titled "Unknown Number: The High School Catfish".
