An MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) is a representative elected by the voters of a specific geographic area called a constituency to the state legislature. Each constituency elects one MLA who then represents the interests and concerns of the people living in that constituency in the state's legislative assembly
. The election process works as follows: The state is divided into several constituencies based on population. During state elections, eligible voters in each constituency cast their votes for candidates contesting to become their MLA. The candidate who receives the highest number of votes in that constituency is declared the winner and becomes the MLA representing that constituency
. Thus, an MLA acts as the voice of their constituency in the legislative assembly, presenting the needs and issues of the people they represent and participating in law-making and governance at the state level
