Eight Republicans voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as House speaker in a historic vote on October 3, 2023. The eight Republicans who voted to remove McCarthy were:
- Andy Biggs of Arizona
- Ken Buck of Colorado
- Tim Burchett of Tennessee
- Eli Crane of Arizona
- Matt Gaetz of Florida
- Bob Good of Virginia
- Nancy Mace of South Carolina
- Matt Rosendale of Montana
Most of these Republicans are fiscal hardliners who opposed McCarthys candidacy for speaker early on. They also cited either the national debt or broken promises made to the House GOP as their reasons for voting to remove McCarthy.
