As of October 2023, pharmacists in Ontario are authorized to diagnose and treat 19 common ailments. These include:

  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • Candidal stomatitis (oral thrush)
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye; bacterial, allergic, and viral)
  • Dermatitis (atopic, contact, and diaper rash)
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Acne
  • Canker sores
  • Yeast infections
  • Parasitic worms
  • Pregnancy nausea

Pharmacists can also renew prescriptions for most medications. The Ontario government has expanded the list of conditions pharmacists can diagnose and treat in order to provide more accessible healthcare services through pharmacies. The prescribing program is part of the provinces plan to reduce the healthcare backlog. Additional resources are available for pharmacists to learn more about prescribing for minor ailments.
