Tropical rainforests are home to a diverse population of plants and animals, with around 50% of the worlds land-dwelling plants and animals found there. Rainforests are unequaled in their richness of bird species, with some birds such as hummingbirds, harpy eagles, spectacled owls, toucans, macaws, quetzals, hornbills, and finches making their home in the forests year-round. Mammals: Jaguars, sloths, okapi, gorillas, capybara, elephants, orangutans, tigers, chimpanzees, tapirs, ocelots, kinkajous, lemurs, agouti, and many more.

Reptiles and amphibians: Many types of frogs, salamanders, snakes, and lizards can be found in almost every layer of the forest. Anacondas, boa constrictors, chameleons, and geckos are also common.

It is important to note that the animals that live in the rainforest can be found in different layers of the forest. For example, the forest floor is home to relatively larger animals like the okapi, the tapir, and the Sumatran rhinoceros, while the understory layer is inhabited by a large number of small mammals, birds, reptiles, and predators like the jaguar.
