Double-Hung Windows
Double-hung windows are a type of window with two operable sashes that slide up and down within the window frame. This design allows for ventilation from the top, bottom, or both, providing efficient cooling of interiors during warm weather. The ability to open both the top and bottom of a double-hung window by equal amounts allows warm air at the top of the room to escape, drawing relatively cool air from outside into the room through the bottom opening. This feature makes double-hung windows a popular choice, especially in older buildings in warmer climates. Additionally, the modern types of double-hung windows have both sashes that can tilt inward for cleaning purposes, making maintenance easier. The thicker casing of double-hung windows compared to single-hung windows is another characteristic of this type of window.
