Omnivores are organisms that have the ability to eat and survive on both plant and animal matter. They obtain energy and nutrients from plant and animal matter, digesting carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fiber, and metabolizing the nutrients. Omnivores can be further classified into sub-categories depending on their feeding behaviors. For example, frugivores include cassowaries, orangutans, and grey parrots, while insectivores include swallows and pink fairy armadillos. Granivores include large ground finches and mice. Some omnivores will hunt and eat their food, like carnivores, eating herbivores and other omnivores. Some others are scavengers and will eat dead matter. Many will eat eggs from other animals. Omnivores eat plants, but not all kinds of plants. Unlike herbivores, omnivores cant digest some of the substances in grains or other plants that do not produce fruit. They can eat fruits and vegetables, though. Examples of omnivorous animals include bears, raccoons, possums, pigs, rats, skunks, roadrunners, badgers, civets, catfish, and humans.
