Ferdinand Magellans expedition in search of a new route to the Maluku Islands and their highly prized spices consisted of five ships. The ships names were:
- Trinidad (flagship)
- Santiago
- Victoria
- Concepción
- San Antonio
Only one of the five ships, the Victoria, returned to port in 1522, making it the first vessel to circumnavigate the globe. The Santiago was destroyed at sea, the San Antonio deserted the fleet and returned to Spain, the Concepción was damaged and then burned by the crew, and the Trinidad broke down in the Moluccas.
