There are seven positions in volleyball, according to FloVolleyball. However, most sources indicate that there are six positions on a volleyball court, each serving a unique role in the success of the team. The six positions in volleyball are:
- Setter
- Outside Hitter
- Opposite Hitter
- Middle Blocker
- Libero
- Defensive Specialist
The positions are assigned to specific locations on the court, and these spots are fixed and unchanging. When forming a team, coaches usually aim to have at least two players for each position to allow for substitutions during the game. As a result, volleyball teams usually have a roster of between 10 and 14 players.
