The 7 steps of CPR are as follows:
- Call 911: The first step is to call for emergency medical assistance.
- Assess the scene of the emergency: Ensure the safety of the environment before proceeding with CPR.
- Open the victims airway: Position the victim on their back, tilt their head back, and lift their jaw to open the airway.
- Check for breathing: Listen for breathing sounds for at least 10 seconds. If the person is not breathing, begin CPR.
- 30 chest compressions: Perform chest compressions by placing one hand over the other, interlocking your fingers, and placing your hands on the center of the chest just below the breastbone. Apply firm pressure at least two inches deep at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.
- 2 rescue breaths: After the chest compressions, deliver two rescue breaths by making the persons chest rise with your breath.
- Repeat the cycle: Continue with cycles of chest compressions and rescue breaths until the person exhibits signs of life, such as breathing, or until advanced medical help arrives.
These steps are crucial in providing immediate assistance to someone experiencing a cardiac emergency, and they can significantly increase the chances of survival until professional medical help arrives.
