The protests currently happening in September 2025 are primarily of two major types:
- In Nepal, large-scale protests known as the 2025 Nepalese Gen Z protests are taking place. These are mainly organized by young people and students who initially protested against a government ban on numerous social media platforms. The protests quickly broadened to address wider issues such as government corruption, nepotism, mismanagement of public funds, and demands for political accountability and transparency. The protests escalated to violent confrontations, resulting in casualties and resignations among government officials.
- In the United Kingdom, there has been a large far-right anti-immigration protest with over 110,000 participants in London. This protest, led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson and other far-right groups, is focused on opposition to immigration and asylum seekers, involving nationalist rhetoric and violent clashes with police. The demonstration has drawn criticism for spreading misinformation and far-right extremist involvement.
Thus, the protests are about young people's fight against government corruption and suppression in Nepal, and against immigration policies promoted by far-right groups in the UK, respectively.
