The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of seven notable structures present during classical antiquity. The first known list of seven wonders dates back to the 2nd–1st century BC. While the entries have varied over the centuries, the seven traditional wonders are:
- Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt
- Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Iraq
- Temple of Artemis, Turkey
- Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece
- Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Turkey
- Colossus of Rhodes, Greece
- Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt
Two of the wonders were located in Greece, two in Turkey, two in Egypt, and one in Iraq. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only wonder still standing today. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are considered by some experts to be a legend and may not have actually existed. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World have inspired many other lists of wonders, including the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
