HIV symptoms in females can be similar to those in males, but there are some differences. Some of the symptoms of HIV in women are:
- Lack of energy or fatigue
- Weight loss
- Frequent low-grade fevers and night sweats
- Frequent yeast infections
- Unusual vaginal discharge
- Pain during sex
- Pain in your upper belly
- Menstrual changes
- Vaginal burning or soreness
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Rapid weight loss
- Changes in mood
- Skin changes
- Repeated vaginal yeast infections
- Severe pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
- A higher risk of cervical cancer
- A higher risk of osteoporosis
- A higher risk of heart disease, especially heart attacks
- Entering menopause younger or having more severe hot flashes
It is important to note that some of these symptoms can be caused by other conditions, and the only way to know for sure if someone has HIV is to get tested.
