Kidney stones can cause a range of symptoms, including:
- Severe, sharp pain in the side and back, below the ribs
- Pain that radiates to the lower abdomen and groin
- Pain that comes in waves and fluctuates in intensity
- Pain or burning sensation while urinating
- Pink, red, or brown urine
- Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
- A persistent need to urinate, urinating more often than usual or urinating in small amounts
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fever and chills
- Blood in the urine
Its important to note that symptoms may not appear until the stone moves down the ureter tubes through which urine empties into the bladder. When this happens, the stones can block the flow of urine out of the kidneys, leading to the manifestation of symptoms. If you experience severe pain in your back or side that does not go away, blood in your urine, or fever, it is advisable to contact a healthcare provider for evaluation and appropriate management.
