Bed bugs are attracted to carbon dioxide, heat, and body odor. Carbon dioxide serves as a marker that a suitable living host is close at hand, and bed bugs are drawn in by the carbon dioxide we exhale and other biological signatures. They are also attracted to body heat, which is why they are often found on or around bedding. Bed bugs are not attracted to dirt and grime. They are accustomed to a dark environment, but a recent research revealed that bed bugs are attracted to certain colors, especially red and black colors. Clutter offers more hiding spots for bed bugs, but they are not attracted to it.
