Scuttle is a character in "The Little Mermaid" movie. In the original animated movie, Scuttle is a seagull, but in the live-action remake, Scuttle is portrayed as a Northern Gannet, which is one of the largest seabirds in the Northern Atlantic. The director of the movie, Rob Marshall, explained that the change was made so that Ariel would only meet Scuttle underwater because, at the start of the story, Ariel has never dared go above the surface. Despite the change in species, Scuttles character remains the same, described as a neurotic, dim-witted seabird that thinks of herself as an expert on all things human.
