what can babies see at 2 months

At 2 months old, babies can see objects and people from up to 18 inches away. They are able to follow movements when someone walks close by and may even briefly hold a toy that is placed in one of their hands. They are more interested in shapes and patterns and can spot familiar faces, even at a distance. They may recognize their parent across a room and smile at them. Their color vision is also developing, so brightly colored wall hangings or toys will help develop their ability to distinguish color. However, their eyes often do not work together very well during the first 2 months of life, and they may appear cross-eyed when trying to look at something that is close. This is normal in most cases and usually goes away, but if one of the babys eyes constantly turns in toward their nose or outward away from the nose, it is recommended to talk with a pediatrician.
