what causes wind

Wind is caused by the uneven heating of the Earths surface by the sun and the Earths own rotation. The suns heat is absorbed at different rates by the Earths land and water, creating temperature differences that lead to differences in air pressure. Warm air rises, leaving behind an area of low pressure, while cooler air rushes in to take its place, creating wind. The Coriolis effect also plays a role in causing some winds to travel along the edges of high-pressure and low-pressure systems. This movement of air from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas is what we experience as wind.
