People with albinism can have different eye colors, including blue, hazel, brown, light gray, or violet. The color of the iris varies depending on the type and amount of melanin in the body, which determines the color of the skin, hair, and eyes. Although lighting conditions can allow the blood vessels at the back of the eye to be seen, which can cause the eyes to look reddish or violet, most people with albinism do not have pink or red eyes. The colored parts of the eyes, called the irises, usually dont have enough pigment, which allows light to shine through the irises and makes the eyes extremely sensitive to bright light. Because of this, very light-colored eyes may appear red in certain lighting conditions.
