Uranus is a gaseous cyan-colored ice giant planet. It appears as a pale cyan disk with distinct limb darkening when viewed through larger amateur telescopes with an objective diameter of between 15 and 23 cm. Uranus gets its blue-green color from methane gas in the atmosphere. Sunlight passes through the atmosphere and is reflected back out by Uranus cloud tops. Methane gas absorbs the red portion of the light, resulting in a blue-green color. The planets atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and helium, with a small amount of methane. The methane in Uranuss atmosphere accounts for 2.3% of the atmosphere by molar fraction below the methane cloud deck at the pressure level of 1.3 bar (130 kPa), making Uranus aquamarine or cyan in color.
