Normal poop color is brown, ranging from light yellow to almost black, and is the result of what you eat and how much bile is in your stool. Bile is a fluid your liver makes to digest fats, and it starts out as a yellowish-green color. As the pigments that give bile its color travel through your digestive system, they go through chemical changes and turn brown. Green poop is also normal and can be caused by the presence of bile, which is naturally green, in the intestines. If poop moves through the intestines too fast, the bilirubin and iron don’t have enough time to mix and complete the process of turning your stool brown. Other colors of poop, such as red, yellow, white, or black, can signal a minor health issue or a serious problem in your digestive system. If the color of your poop worries you, it is best to call your doctor.
