A curious episode occurs in the study when a clergyman and his wife are awakened early in the morning by noises coming from the study. They hear the sound of money being taken from the clergyman's desk. Suspicious, they creep downstairs and search the study but find it empty. Despite this, the desk drawer is open and the housekeeping money is missing. They search everywhere, under the desk, behind the curtains, and even up the chimney, but there is no trace of the thief. The clergyman is baffled by the disappearance, calling it an "extraordinary affair." Later, this mysterious incident is revealed to be the work of an invisible man, which adds to the curiosity and mystery of the episode.
