The official currency of Egypt is the Egyptian pound (EGP) . One Egyptian pound is made up of 100 piastres. The smallest denominations are 25 piastres. The Egyptian pound is also used, unofficially, in the Gaza Strip and in parts of Sudan. The currency can be noted by the symbol E£ or LE, which stands for livre égyptienne; French for Egyptian pound. Accepted currencies in Egypt include Euros, US dollars, AUS dollars, and British pounds. However, to maximize spending power, it is advisable to exchange foreign currency into Egyptian pounds to have on hand to pay for smaller transactions.
