After His resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days on earth doing several important things:
- He appeared multiple times to His followers, including Mary Magdalene, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and the apostles in Jerusalem, proving He was alive by showing His wounds, eating with them, and allowing them to touch Him
- During these appearances, He taught and explained the Scriptures, helping His disciples understand how the Messiah had to suffer, die, and rise again, and preparing them for their mission to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations starting from Jerusalem
- He gave final commandments and instructions to the apostles, including promising the coming of the Holy Spirit to empower them for their ministry
- Jesus was seen by many people, including large groups, and performed miracles, continuing His ministry of healing and preaching
- He demonstrated His glorified body’s abilities, such as appearing and disappearing suddenly, passing through locked doors, and yet still having the scars from His crucifixion
- At the end of the 40 days, Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives, witnessed by His disciples
In summary, during the 40 days after His resurrection, Jesus appeared to many, taught His disciples to understand Scripture, commissioned them for their mission, continued His ministry publicly, and then ascended to heaven
