Tony Evans is a prominent evangelical pastor, author, and speaker. He founded the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, in 1976 and served as its senior pastor until 2024. He also founded The Urban Alternative, a Christian Bible teaching ministry with a global reach through radio broadcasts in over 130 countries. Evans is recognized for his significant contributions to evangelical Christianity, including being the first African American to author a full Bible commentary and study Bible. He has also served as chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks. In June 2024, Tony Evans stepped down from his senior pastor role at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship due to an undisclosed sin that was not criminal in nature. After undergoing a restoration process involving counseling and mentoring, he was publicly restored to ministry in October 2025 but will no longer serve in any staff or leadership role at the church. He apologized to his congregation and family for any instability caused by this situation.
