Nicolaus Copernicus engaged in several different occupations throughout his life. He was primarily known as an astronomer, but he was also a church canon involved in administrative duties for a bishopric in Poland. His roles included collecting rents, securing military defenses, overseeing chapter finances, and managing a bakery, brewery, and mills. Additionally, he was a physician, providing medical care for other canons and important patients. Copernicus also studied and worked in law, holding a doctorate in canon law. Besides these, he acted as a secretary, physician to his uncle the Prince- Bishop, and participated in political and economic administration within the Warmia region. His astronomical work was mainly done during his spare time apart from these responsibilities.
