DJs play recorded music for an audience, and their main aim is to engage and entertain their audience by selecting tracks they think will fit the mood of the crowd. They use audio equipment that can play at least two sources of recorded music simultaneously, which enables them to blend tracks together to create a seamless mix. DJs use a controller, turntables, or CDJs to cue up, combine, and play songs from vinyl records, CDs, or digital audio files on a computer. During a live show, they are actively monitoring the crowd and selecting tracks they think will be best received next. They then match the speed of the two tracks and, using EQs, will switch elements of the tracks to make a seamless blend. DJs also have to build up a following and hustle for gigs, sometimes acting as promoters or label managers at the same time.
