According to Jehovahs Witnesses, when a person dies, their existence completely stops. They believe that death is not just the death of the physical body but also the death of the soul. The soul is something inherent to every living thing and simply represents the force of life. When a person's physical body stops functioning, their soul stops functioning as well. They do not believe in an immortal soul or spirit. Therefore, there is no consciousness at all after death, and the individual ceases to exist. They argue that there is no limbo where the spirit or soul of the person goes to await the resurrection, no immediate visit to hell, purgatory, or heaven after a person dies. However, Jehovah's Witnesses believe that resurrection is possible. Witnesses believe that 144,000 of Jesus’ most faithful followers will be raised when Christ returns. They also believe that there are three classes of people; the “little flock” which after death will reside in Heaven, the “great crowd” that will reside on Earth and the rest that will be non-existent.
