ULEZ cameras are used by Transport for London (TfL) to monitor the cars that enter and exit the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across the capital. They record a cars license plate when it drives past and the number is then run through a database, which enables TfL to check what kind of vehicle it is and whether it meets the ULEZ emissions standards. The cameras are used to enforce the ULEZ extension stretching to the North Circular Road. As of March 3, 2023, there are 1,400 cameras used for Ulez enforcement. The cameras work by scanning a vehicle's number plate and checking if it is compliant or not within the low emission zone. Certain entrances and exits in the Ulez zone are not monitored by cameras, but these locations have not been disclosed.
