The shooter in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah. Robinson acted alone and was apprehended in St. George, Utah, after a manhunt lasting about two days. He reportedly confessed to or implied his involvement to family and has been charged with the murder of Kirk. Robinson had no prior criminal record and was not affiliated with any political party officially, though he had become more political in recent years and expressed dislike for Kirk. Investigators found a high-powered bolt-action rifle, believed to be the murder weapon, near Utah Valley University where the shooting occurred. The shot was fired from a rooftop location at a substantial distance during an event Kirk was speaking at. Robinson fled the scene by jumping off the building and escaping into a neighborhood before his capture. The FBI and local authorities collected various forensic evidence including the rifle, footwear and palm prints, and video footage documenting Robinson’s movements before and after the shooting. President Donald Trump confirmed Robinson’s arrest, noting that someone close to Robinson turned him in, and expressed hope the shooter will receive the death penalty. Robinson is being held without bail in Utah on initial charges related to the shooting.
