Common documents
- Identity / lawful status: U.S. birth certificate, valid U.S. passport or passport card, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, Permanent Resident Card, or certain valid immigration documents.
- Social Security number: Social Security card, W-2, 1099, or pay stub showing your full SSN.

If your name changed
If the name on your identity document does not match your current legal name, you also need proof of the name change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order.
