A migraine is a type of headache that can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head, but it can also affect both sides. It often comes with a warning sign called an aura, which can include visual disturbances, numbness, or difficulty speaking. Other symptoms of migraines include sensitivity to light, sound, and sometimes smell and touch, nausea, and vomiting. Migraine attacks can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so bad that it interferes with daily activities. The pain can move from one side of your head to the other, can be in the front of your head, or can feel like it's affecting your entire head. The post-drome phase can follow a migraine attack, during which you might feel drained, confused, or washed out for up to a day.
