In basketball, the power forward (PF) is a position that plays a role similar to centers. They are typically taller and stronger players that play close to the basket, spending most of the game inside the three-point line. The power forward position entails a variety of responsibilities, including rebounding, defending, playing in the post, and setting screens. They can intimidate their opponents with their size, post up, block shots, and some even shoot mid-range jump shots, as well as three-pointers. Power forwards are also expected to be good at transitioning from offense to defense in a game situation, and they must hustle back on defense after going for a rebound or scoring. When on offense, they typically play with their backs towards the basket, and when on defense, they typically position themselves under the basket in a zone defense or against the opposing power forward in man-to-man defense. Many power forwards are noted for their mid-range jump-shot, and several players have become very accurate from 12 to 18 feet. In the NBA, power forwards usually range from 6 9" to 6 11" while in the WNBA, power forwards are usually between 6′ 0″ and 6′ 3″.
