The Ford Chicago Assembly Plant, located in the Hegewisch neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, manufactures several vehicles. As of 2023, the plant produces the sixth-generation Ford Explorer, the second-generation Lincoln Aviator, and the Police Interceptor Utility. The plant has a long history of automobile manufacturing, starting with the Model T in 1924 and switching to Model A production in 1928. During World War II, the plant built M8 Greyhound and M20 Armored Utility Car armored cars. In 1985, it was selected as the site of production for the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable midsize sedans. The plant has undergone several modernizations, including a $400 million investment in 2004 to modernize the plant and a $1 billion investment in 2019 to transform the plant for new vehicle production.
