Nature

Guaifenesin is an expectorant that is used to help clear mucus or phlegm from the chest when you have congestion from a cold or flu. It works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways, clearing congestion, and making breathing easier. Guaifenesin is a mucoactive drug that acts by loosening mucus in the airways and making coughs more productive. It increases the volume and reduces the viscosity (stickiness) of respiratory tract secretions, making coughing out these secretions easier. Guaifenesin is usually taken with or without food every 4 hours as needed. It is available in both prescription and nonprescription products.
