To be born again means to have a spiritual rebirth or regeneration of the human spirit, which is distinctly and separately caused by the operation of the Holy Spirit, and it is not caused by baptism in water
. It refers to a change of heart from indifference or hostility toward God to a love for Him and a new purpose and new goals for living
. To be born again, one must repent of their sins and turn to Christ for their salvation, and as a result, become part of God’s family forever
. It means that one turns from sin and with his or her whole heart trusts in Christ as personal Savior and Lord, and God makes that one a new person
