Rat poop can be used to identify the presence of rats in a house. Rat droppings are usually dark brown to yellow, but the color can vary depending on the animals diet. Fresh rat droppings are shiny black and about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long, while older droppings are lighter in color. Rat droppings are cylindrical and about half an inch long, sometimes up to one inch. They are smooth and dark brown in color. Rat droppings look very similar to squirrel droppings, but they are a little bit thinner and darker on average.
