The One Ring is a central plot element in J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings. It was forged by the Dark Lord Sauron during the Second Age to gain dominion over the free peoples of Middle-earth. The One Ring is essentially the central item that The Lord of the Rings revolves around. The Ring offers power to its wearer and progressively corrupts the wearer's mind to evil. It enhances the power of anyone who wears it, and the more powerful you are, the greater it enhances you. The Ring of Power has the ability to turn its wearer invisible, allowing them to move between the Seen and Unseen worlds. The Ring, being essentially an extension of Sauron himself, was evil in nature. The One Ring was made with some of Sauron’s own power, in order to make it more powerful. Sauron’s goal was to use the One Ring to influence and control the minds of those who wielded the lesser rings.
