The United Auto Workers union has announced new strikes against General Motors and Ford Motor, which will affect two U.S. assembly plants. The strikes will target Fords Chicago Assembly Plant in Illinois, which produces the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs, and GMs Lansing Delta Township plant in mid-Michigan that produces the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse crossovers. The Chicago and Lansing plants employ more than 7,000 union auto workers combined, according to UAW President Shawn Fain. Approximately 4,600 Ford workers at the Chicago Assembly Plant and 2,400 workers at the Lansing Delta Township plant will join the strike against Detroits Big Three carmakers. The total number of auto workers participating in the strike is about 25,000.
