The gender identity of Yamato in One Piece has been a topic of debate and controversy among fans. In September 2021, Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, confirmed in Vivre Card that Yamato was a biological female. However, Yamato self-identifies as Kozuki Oden, who is a man, and therefore "became a man, too". Yamato is referred to as "Kaidos son" by Kaido himself, but after Yamato's face reveal, both the anime and manga re-introduce Yamato as "Kaido's daughter". In One Piece Chapter 984, it was revealed that Yamato is a woman who calls herself a man to mimic her idol, Oden Kozuki. Yamato's gender identity has never been fully resolved, and chapter #1084 just offers the latest contradiction regarding it. In conclusion, Yamato is a biological female who identifies as a man and uses "he/him" pronouns.
