Coraline is a dark fantasy horror childrens novel by British author Neil Gaiman. It was awarded the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers. The book features lots of intense action sequences involving running, fighting, and cat-throwing, and it lacks explosions but makes up for it in adrenaline. Coraline is written for kids, but it appeals to adults as well. The story follows the titled protagonist, a young girl who is small for her age, as her family moves into a new house. While exploring, she discovers a portal to an alternate world where everything is similar to her own world, but better. But theres another mother there, and another father, and they want her to stay and be their little girl. They want to change her and never let her go. Coraline will have to fight with all her wit and courage if she is to save herself and return to her ordinary life.
