There are several ways to get blood out of carpet, depending on whether the stain is fresh or dried. Here are some methods from various sources:
For fresh blood stains:
- Dab with a cloth dipped in a solution of cold water and salt (2 tbsp salt to 1 cup water) .
- Mix one tablespoon of scent-free liquid hand dishwashing detergent with two cups of cold water. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the solution.
- Blot the bloodstain with a peroxide-soaked rag until it fades away. Then blot the former stain with a damp (cold water) rag to finish. Dry blot with a clean rag to absorb excess water.
For dried blood stains:
- Gently go over the stain with a soft brush to break up the dried blood. Then use one of the methods for fresh blood stains.
- Use pure hydrogen peroxide first to get the stain out, then run it through cold water while agitating the fabric to rinse the hydrogen and any remaining blood out.
- Mix one of the following liquids (hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, or OxiClean) with water in a diluted solution. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Blot the stain with a clean cloth until its gone.
Note that some of these methods may damage your carpet, so its important to test them on a small, inconspicuous area first. Additionally, its best to act quickly when dealing with blood stains, as they can be more difficult to remove once theyve dried.
