The wings of an airplane generate lift by creating a difference in air pressure. When air flows over and under the wings, lift is generated. The top part of the wings is slightly sloped upwards, resulting in a more pronounced curvature than that of the bottom part of the wings. As air flows over the top of the wings, it becomes less pressurized than the air flowing under the bottom of the wings. This difference in pressure creates a force on the wings that lifts the airplane up into the air. The curvature of the wings creates lift, not the distance that the air travels over the wings. The shape of the wing can also be changed to create lift. By changing the shape of the wing, such as through camber or angle of attack, the wing becomes asymmetrical, which causes different pressure above and below the wing, resulting in lift.
