On Tuesday night, October 3, 2023, a shooting occurred on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. The shooting happened outside a crowded homecoming event, shortly after the coronation of Miss and Mr. Morgan State University, which is a popular annual homecoming week event. University police officers on patrol heard gunshots around 9:25 p.m. local time and responded to find multiple gunshot victims on campus. Five people were shot, four men and one woman aged 18 to 22, and were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Four of the five victims are Morgan State University students. The incident is no longer considered an active shooter situation, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted early Wednesday. As of Wednesday morning, no one was in custody in connection with the shooting. Baltimore police are searching for a suspect. The university canceled classes on Wednesday and will hold an emergency meeting to reassess the remaining scheduled homecoming week activities.
