Agatha Christie was a famous crime novelist who died on January 12, 1976, at the age of 85 from natural causes at her home at Winterbrook House. However, she is also known for her mysterious disappearance in 1926. On the evening of December 3, 1926, she left her home in Sunningdale, Berkshire, got into her car, and disappeared into the night. Her disappearance sparked a manhunt involving the police, members of the public, and famous figures and was lapped up by the tabloid press. She was eventually discovered alive after 11 days, supposedly suffering from amnesia. The reason for her disappearance has been hotly contested over the years, with suggestions ranging from a nervous breakdown brought on by the death of her mother and embarrassment of her husbands affair to a cynical publicity stunt to promote the successful but still little-known author. However, no one knows for sure what happened during those 11 days, and Agatha Christie herself never spoke of the disappearance again.
